Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass Surgery (Roux-en-Y)
The Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is a surgical procedure where the stomach is divided into two unequal portions using multiple staplers. The two portions remain completely disconnected from each other, and no part of the stomach or intestine is removed.
In this procedure, a segment of the intestine is connected to the smaller 'pouch' of the stomach in a 'Y' fashion. This connection restores the continuity of the digestive tract, allowing for the bypass of a portion of the stomach and intestine, which helps in achieving significant weight loss.
