Diagnostic and Therapeutic Thoracoscopy for Tuberculosis / Infections / Tumours
Thoracoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique used to diagnose and treat certain chest conditions. It is particularly beneficial for diseases related to the food pipe, the lungs, and the lining around the lungs (pleura).
Conditions that can benefit from thoracoscopy include:
- Recurrent pleural effusions – Fluid accumulation between the lungs and ribs
- Empyema – Pus accumulation between ribs and lungs
- Esophageal cancers
- Other non-cancerous esophageal conditions like muscular or swallowing disorders
Symptoms:
- Chest pain and discomfort
- Shortness of breath
- Recurrent chest infections
- Difficulty in swallowing
- Sense of food getting stuck in the throat
Diagnosis:
- Chest X-ray
- CT scan chest
- Upper GI Endoscopy
Thoracoscopy Decortication for Tuberculosis & Empyema:
Multiple keyholes are made in the chest wall between the ribs. Under direct vision, the procedure is conducted based on the condition. All fluid or pus is cleared, tissue bits or biopsies are taken at suitable places and sent for testing. Thickened tissues surrounding the lungs and its grooves are peeled off to enable adequate expansion.
